Be Broadband offers up to 44Mbps through ‘line bonding’

Manoj Solanki, Tuesday November 16, 2010 - 12:39 AM

ISP BE Broadband is now offering a new broadband service that can double the speed of an existing customer’s broadband service.

The service works by using line bonding technology with two phonelines at the local exchange to effectively provide double the speed of a customer’s broadband service.  This means that a customer requires a second phoneline to use the service.  So customers who receive around 20Mbps download speeds would get 40Mbps download speeds through the line bonding service.

The service is available anywhere that BE has unbundled an exchange, equating to around 70% of the UK.

Whilst Britain is in the midst of fibre broadband deployment to parts of the UK, BE says its line bonding service is useful to customers who can’t currently get fibre broadband.

“As only half of the UK population have access to fibre currently, BE’s line bonding product is a real viable alternative,” says Alex Gowar, Head of Marketing for BE Broadband.  ”But Line Bonding is not only great for BE customers who want fibre speeds, but it could also be life changing for the millions of UK customers who suffer slower speeds because they live a long way from the exchange. It’s all part of our ‘Real World Speed’ proposition and our desire to help customers achieve the fastest speeds possible that their line can handle.”

The monthly rental for the line bonding service is £65 per month. There is a setup cost of £85 (including a suitable wireless modem router).
