ISP sees surge in traffic during World Cup England vs. Slovenia match
Manoj Solanki, Thursday June 24, 2010 - 9:35 PMBe broadband reported a marked increase in traffic during the match played on Wednesday night, as many users turned to the Internet for live coverage.
The surge began around 3pm and continued until around 5pm where it started dropping back down again.
Services such as the iPlayer are making it easy for people, particularly those sitting in an office to potentially watch the match.
Be broadband has also had reports of congestion and some connection issues according to a post on the BE Usergroup website. Congestion graphs according to a monitoring service are shown on ISPs including BT, Eclipse, Plusnet and Tiscali.
The 2010 FIFA World Cup has proved to be the most popular web event in history. Last week it was reported that the official FIFA website received a record number of visitors to its site. Even eclipsing Facebook at times.
