TalkTalk says it will honour Tiscali contracts
Manoj Solanki, Sunday January 31, 2010 - 10:43 AMAngry customers, who were told they would have to pay TalkTalk tariffs despite signing up for Tiscali prices will now be able to keep their original deal.
New Tiscali customers who signed up between September and December 2009 were originally told they would be put on an equivalent TalkTalk tariff. In some cases, this meant paying a higher price, despite being told a different price when they signed up.
According to The Guardian however, it appears TalkTalk have had a change of heart and these new Tiscali customers will have the option to keep their original deal. They will be put on a TalkTalk tariff, but they will be credited the difference to make it match up to their original deal.
Alternatively, they will also be offered a six months half price deal when they sign up to TalkTalk, giving them two options. It appears that The Guardian raised the issue with TalkTalk, but Ofcom, the telecoms regulator may also have been influential.
Tiscali put its UK operations up for sale in 2009 due to intense competition from other providers. Sky, BT, amongst others were also expressed an interest in buying Tiscali but pulled out eventually, mainly due to the asking price.
