Virgin Media partners with Google for enhanced email services

Manoj Solanki, Wednesday April 15, 2009 - 10:43 AM

Virgin Media today announced it will offer enhanced email services to four million home broadband customers through a new partnership with Google.

Similar to Gmail, Virgin Media home broadband customers will get over 7GB (Gigabytes) of email storage, spam filtering and advanced email search facilities.  They also get up to 10 “virginmedia.com” email addresses and email updates via mobiles.

The deployment of “Google Partner Edition Apps” by Virgin Media includes Gmail and may lead to deployment of  Google Calendar, Google Talk and Google Docs in the future.

Customers also get Google’s communication and collaboration applications.

Existing customers who have @blueyonder.co.uk, @ntlworld.com or @virgin.net email addresses can keep them, or choose to get new virginmedia.com addresses.

The service is due to be piloted by the first 20,000 new customers that sign up today, with a full launch envisaged shortly after.
