ISPs criticised for using premium rate numbers – SeekBroadband comments

Manoj Solanki, Thursday March 5, 2009 - 12:36 PM

A survey from Which? Computing reveals that many ISPs charge premium rate prices for calling technical support.

Full Commentary below:

“Many users may not be aware of technical support costs, as it’s often not clearly specified during sign-up,” warns Manoj Solanki of SeekBroadband.com.

“Some customers get a nasty shock when they find out how much they’ve been charged for calling technical support.  Some ISPs could do better by making clearer the costs for calling technical support.”

“A freephone number is useful for a lot of users, novice or experienced.  Users who may be getting broadband for the first time often have teething troubles and are likely to be calling technical support.

“They may have questions about setting up a router, where to connect wires and how to install any software for example.  Some of these customers could be on the phone for at least a few minutes depending on the enquiry.

“The last thing they want is to be charged a premium rate just to get going, ” added Solanki.
