Office worker sacked after employer reads Facebook entry
Manoj Solanki, Friday February 27, 2009 - 1:57 PMKimberley Swann was sacked from her job as an administrator after calling her job boring on Facebook.
The 16-year-old was working as administrator at Ivell Marketing & Logistics in Clacton-on-sea in Essex. According to the Daily Telegraph, the 16-year-old said she was hauled into the manager’s office on Monday and fired because of her comments on her Facebook page.
They then handed her a letter saying that they were ending her employment ‘with immediate effect’.
Miss Swann says she didn’t even reference the company’s name, but merely said the job was boring. “They were just being nosy, going through everything. I think it is really sad, it makes them look stupid that they are going to be so petty,” she said.
The owner of Ivell Marketing & Logistics claims they have done everything by the book and was quoted as say it’s a shame because she is a lovely girl.
The Facebook website may see a rise in visitor numbers then as members log in to double-check their recent entries.
