O2 set to launch inclusive laptop and broadband deals

Manoj Solanki, Wednesday February 11, 2009 - 2:37 PM

O2 has announced its entrance into the popular laptop and broadband bundle market, and is due for launch at the end of February 2009.

Like its peers, O2 has finally decided to have a crack at the laptop market by offering a choice of two Samsung laptops, the NC10 mini-laptop and R510, both costing £29.38 per month with an O2 mobile broadband connection.

The NC10 is a netbook that comes with a 10.2” widescreen display, an Intel Atom 1.6GHz N270 processor, 1GB of RAM plus a 160GB hard drive. As a compact and lightweight laptop, it’s aimed at mobile workers and those on the move who don’t want to lug around a heavier and standard size laptop.

For those that require a larger screen and more performance, O2 is offering the R510, which has a 15.4” display, a 160GB hard drive, 2 GB RAM and uses an Intel Pentium Dual Core T3200 processor.

O2 is also offering laptop support for a limited period to help users get going if they have any issues. An option to extend the cover will be available. In addition, customers will get an extended two-year warranty on either laptop.

Having had a scour, both laptops have positive user reviews. The NC10 netbook in particular is highly regarded.

According to recent research, the laptop market is set for huge growth, particularly since the introduction of netbooks, which O2 hopes to cash in on. “We all want to be better connected at all times and the substantial and continued growth in the laptop market is symptomatic of this desire,” says O2 CEO, Ronan Dunne.

“Laptops are rapidly eroding the desktop PC market and at the same time, the emergence of the mini-laptop has opened up a whole new market for ultra-portable devices – one that is expected to more than double in size in 2009 alone. “

The new laptop bundles will be available from 27 February 2009 from any one of the 490 O2 stores in the UK, or online at the O2 website.
