Sky posts 5% growth in customer base

Manoj Solanki, Friday October 31, 2008 - 10:33 AM

Sky today released its quarterly results for the 3 months ended 30 September.

Despite the challenging economic environment, Sky added 164,000 broadband customers, taking the total to 1.792 million.   One in five customers took up Sky broadband.  Increased exposure and customer awareness aided record growth in Sky+ HD take-up, which jumped from 93,000 to 591,000.

Overall, 58% of customers took up more than one product from Sky.

Operating profit was up 21% to £182 million and revenue increased by 5% to £1.2 million, compared to the same period last year.  There were net customer additions of 87,000, which took Sky’s total customer base to 9.067 million.

Jeremy Darroch, Chief Executive, said: “This is a good set of results in a challenging environment.  We’ve continued to perform well by focusing on quality, value and service. Over nine million customers now enjoy the best in entertainment through Sky and, in tougher times, we’re helping more people to save money on broadband and telephony as well.”
