Vodafone launches compact USB dongle for Mobile Broadband
Manoj Solanki, Tuesday January 15, 2008 - 3:33 PMVodafone has teamed up with Huawei Technologies to launch a new Mobile Broadband USB dongle.
The “E172” USB dongle is for use with Vodafone’s Mobile Broadband service and can offer download speeds up to 7.2Mbps and upload speeds at up to 2Mbps. It is smaller and has a sleeker design. Vodafone partnered with network solutions provider Huawei Technologies to build the device. Apparently, it was designed with the “elegance of a sleek white piano in mind. ”
The USB cap is connected to the dongle itself, so when removed during use, will just hang off on the side without needing to put it aside separately. Vodafone also states that the plug-and-play featured devices “are compatible with Windows (Vista and XP) and Mac OSX, and can be used on a PC, laptop or handheld device.”
Vodafone are not the only ones to release a newly designed dongle however. 3 Mobile Broadband got in on the act a while ago by offering USB dongles for it’s own service in various colours and designs. It’s no surprise as these devices are probably set to become a more common sight in public places where people use their laptops.
Kyle Whitehill, Vodafone UK, Enterprise Director commented: “Vodafone was the first to improve download speeds with HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access), the first to increase upload speeds with HSUPA, and now we’re pushing the boundaries of usability even further with a groundbreaking compact design.”
