BT Vision coming to Xbox 360
Manoj Solanki, Monday January 7, 2008 - 1:17 PMBT and Microsoft have announced a deal allowing BT broadband customers to access BT Vision services through the Xbox 360 games console.
BT Vision, which is an IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) service, delivers it’s media content using the Internet, rather than a satellite or cable connection. Television and on-demand content from BT Vision will become available through the Xbox 360 console, without requiring the BT Vision set-top box. Users obviously need to have a BT Broadband connection in order to use the service.
BT Vision’s on-demand content includes an extensive library of movies as well as live sport and 242 ‘near-live’ FA Premier League football matches.
Dan Marks, BT Vision CEO, said: “We are pleased to partner with Microsoft to deliver a truly compelling connected entertainment experience to our customers. For the first time consumers in the UK will be able to experience the advantages of an advanced TV service together with the benefits of next generation gaming.”
The service from BT Vision will become available to Xbox 360 users from around mid 2008, and will be available to existing and future Xbox 360 owners.
Enrique Rodriguez, a corporate vice president at Microsoft, said: “Last year at CES, we announced Xbox 360 on Microsoft Mediaroom as a powerful platform capable of enabling new entertainment experiences for consumers, and we are pleased to team with BT to bring this service to market.”
