Free Wi-Fi access at McDonald’s
Manoj Solanki, Tuesday October 9, 2007 - 8:22 AMMcDonald’s customers will get free Internet access in around 1,200 UK restaurants.
The initiative follows a review between McDonald’s and their Telecoms and ICT service provider AKJ. The result is a new converged network solution that will cater for secure, corporate requirements as well as regular Internet users.
Wireless Internet specialists The Cloud, were selected as the partner to roll out and managed the new wireless network. Several months ago, The Cloud were also responsible for launching an outdoor Wi-Fi network across the City of London.
Darren Burne, UK Infrastructure Manager at McDonald’s, said, “Providing free wi-fi access is seen as an exciting and important innovation for McDonald’s. Our partnership with AKJ has allowed us to arrive at a solution that not only meets our wi-fi objectives, but also offers a significant improvement to our corporate communications.”
Matt Atkinson, managing director of AKJ, added, “We are proud to be part of the McDonald’s free customer wi-fi initiative. That McDonald’s were open and willing to accept the concept of using a converged network in this way is a great credit to their management team and raises the customer service bar in the highly competitive service food industry.”
