AOL broadband with free Dell laptop is let loose

AOL’s free laptop with broadband is now available.

Pre-registration for the offer has been around for a few weeks, but it is now available to buy.   The deal includes AOL broadband for £19.99 per month (Up to 8meg download speed, 40GB usage limit) plus a free Dell laptop and a wireless router.

The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1520 base.  It’s a fairly new model and has the following specs:

• Intel Celeron 540 processor
• 80GB hard disk
• 1GB RAM
• DVD Writer
• Windows Vista
• 15.4inch Widescreen display

Being an Intel Celeron based laptop, it’s only really suitable for light or moderate usage.  It would be fine for web browsing and email, but do not expect to be able to play the latest games on it.  It is a base model laptop but it is possible to upgrade when ordering. 

There is also a £14.99 charge if you decide to have the laptop delivered, but as this offer is also available in Carphone Warehouse stores, customers can also choose to collect it if they wish.
 
The offer looks great.  So what are the catches?  For starters, it requires you to sign-up to a 24 month contract to AOL.  Another thing to bear in mind is that the price tag of £19.99 per month is only available to customers living in an AOL broadband (LLU) area.  There is an extra charge of £10 per month otherwise.

To take out the £19.99 per month offer, customers also need to sign up to AOL’s pay as you go calls package.  Details of the calls package can be found at the website.
