Freedom2Surf offers Broadband for gamers

ISP Freedom2Surf have announced a new broadband package aimed at online gaming enthusiasts.

The package, called Broadband 4 Gamers (BB4G), has been created with gamers in mind.  It is priced at £24.99 per month, offers an up to 8Meg connection and a 50 Gigabyte usage allowance (£6 for an extra 50 Gig).  According to Freedom2Surf, it has been designed to ‘minimise ping times with the least number of network hops to connect your PC to the game servers’.

Freedom2Surf will also adjust ADSL line characteristics to switch off interleaving.  This feature, specific to BT’s 8Meg ADSL Max broadband, increases line stability and is generally switched on or left in an AUTO state, but can increase latency on the line by around 40 ms. 

However, switching it off can reduce the potential latency.  Some gamers or users of certain applications often request this from their ISP to improve the gaming experience. 

The benefits of lower ping times and network hops are only available by using the popular wireplay gaming service.  There is also no traffic management or shaping applied on connections from and to wireplay servers.
