O2 top for fixed and mobile broadband
Manoj Solanki, Thursday February 5, 2009 - 12:52 PMO2 came out on top in the 2008 JD Power customer satisfaction study for fixed broadband and mobile broadband in the UK.
O2 has generally maintained a good reputation for fixed line broadband since it entered the market via its takeover of ADSL2 broadband provider Be, who themselves had a good record of service. O2 scored 767 on a 1,000-point scale in the fixed broadband study. Next is Sky at 706, followed by Virgin Media at 672.
The number of service disruptions was found to be lower than the previous year for fixed broadband services.
Despite being a slow starter, and not currently having the greatest 3G coverage or headline speeds, O2 was top in the mobile broadband study with 712 points. Perhaps a sign of how far O2 has come. Next were T-Mobile and Vodafone respectively.
Satisfaction was generally lower with newer mobile broadband services, citing an average of 3.6 service disruptions in the previous 12 months, which was mainly due to poor 3G coverage or congestion on the mobile network.
The study looked at five factors key to overall satisfaction with their broadband provider: Performance and reliability; billing, cost of service, customer support and offers/promotions. The study was based on 1,715 residential customers with fixed line broadband and 1,080 mobile broadband customers.
