Sky and Google announce broadband alliance

Sky and Google are to partner to deliver web-based services for Sky Broadband customers.

Several agreements have been made that will see Google deliver branded video, communication and search advertising services to Sky Broadband customers.

A new User Generated Video (UGV) portal will be launched, based on Google’s own video content service.  This will enable users to upload and share their videos, with a facility to use it through a mobile phone.

A customised version of Google mail will also be available with a ‘sky.com’ address.  Future tools are likely to include VoIP and Enhanced storage services.

Search and advertising tools will be available on Sky websites on a shared revenue basis.  Further opportunities are to be exploited and explored further to take advantage of UK online advertising growth.
