Brits keen on Mobile Broadband at the beach
Manoj Solanki, Wednesday July 9, 2008 - 7:32 AMAccording to research from T-Mobile, more and more Brits want Internet on the move.
In a poll of 2000 consumers, 44 percent said that they would like to take the Internet everywhere they go, with the most popular places being the pub, park, garden and beach, to indulge in activites such as going on Facebook and doing some online shopping.
Mobile broadband through a simple plug-in USB dongle has made it easy to get high-speed Internet access on the move, and explains the high demand for mobile broadband services, especially in the summer as people like to be outside more. T-Mobile says that 1 in 4 new customers is a mobile broadband customer.
The poll, conducted by YouGov, also found that 78 percent of office workers were longing to be outside to make the most of the summer months.
“Mobile broadband has reached a tipping point and is now hitting the mainstream,” said Richard Warmsley, Head of Internet and Entertainment services at T-Mobile.
“Last year our research showed that only 3% of office workers wanted to work from the beach: one year on, the latest figures show that a staggering 44% of us now want to use the Internet on the go, and an incredible 21% would like to use it at the beach. And 46% say they get online to update their social networks on the move – so it’s not just work leaving the building,” added Warmsley.
