Broadband performance perks up Carphone Q3 results
Manoj Solanki, Friday January 18, 2008 - 4:19 PMCarphone Warehouse released its 3rd quarter results today, showing good progress in its broadband division.
In its trading update for the thirteen weeks to 29 December 2007, it said it added 118,000 net broadband connections, giving the company a total of 2.6M customers.
The group also transferred more of its broadband customers from BT Wholesale to its own LLU network. The group now has 61% of the total broadband base on its own network, compared to 55% in the last quarter. This amounts to 221,000 transferred customers.
Customers on its own broadband network produce a profit per customer rather than a loss when they were on BT’s Wholesale network.
Despite many TalkTalk customers coming to the end of their 18 month contract, the company saw no increase in churn levels.
Charles Dunstone, Chief Executive Officer, said: “In our broadband business, our value proposition and the success of unbundling significantly enhance the visibility of future earnings.”
Mobile connections rose by 11%, less than expected by city analysts. Carphone said that this was due to the pre-pay market being a “little more subdued than last year”.
Sadly, the group gave no indication of the performance of the iPhone since its release in November 2007.
