Tiscali in top five for broadband performance
Manoj Solanki, Tuesday July 17, 2007 - 7:42 AMIn the latest round of ADSL broadband performance figures by Epitiro, Tiscali enters the top five, while BT stays top.
Epitiro’s customer experience monitoring and competitor benchmarking service, called ISP-I, monitors consumer ADSL broadband services from the ten largest consumer ADSL broadband providers.
Measures used to evaluate performance include speed and reliability of Internet connections, how long it takes to connect to the Internet, upload and download speeds.
BT stays top of the performance chart again, with Plusnet re-entering the top five for the first time since Q3 2006.
Tiscali enter the top five for the first time. However, Tiscali also have another presence in the top five following their take-over of Pipex broadband.
The top five are as follows:
| Overall Ranking | Q1 2007 | Q2 2007 |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | BT | BT |
| 2 | Demon | Demon |
| 3 | AOL | Tiscali |
| 4 | Pipex | Pipex |
| 5 | Talk Talk | Plusnet |
Gavin Johns, Managing Director of Epitiro, said:
“In terms of technical performance, BT, Demon and Pipex are consistently maintaining their presence in the top five.
“BT and Pipex had the joint lowest packet loss rate which is good news for VoIP users.
“Demon had the lowest percentage of connection failures in the second quarter of 2007, suggesting that their consumer ADSL customers had the highest degree of uptime of the sample group.” he continued.
Currently, the report only monitors ADSL and ADSL Max broadband connections. Epitiro plans to add cable and ADSL2+ monitoring from the next quarter, which will include Virgin Media’s cable broadband service.
