O2 broadband offers truly unlimited downloads

Manoj Solanki, Monday September 26, 2011 - 10:10 PM

O2 has announced that it is enhancing two of its broadband packages to offer customers truly unlimited downloads.

The changes apply to The All Rounder and The Works package.  It means there will be no traffic management policy on the broadband service.  Many broadband ISPs have a traffic management policy in place that can restrict a user’s broadband speeds, download limit or incur extra charges, particularly during peak times when a lot of users are online.

The policy is intended to provide stable and consistent broadband speeds even during peak times.  Heavy downloaders are often said to be the cause, so some ISPs place restrictions on them.

At a price, or if it’s economically viable, ISPs can offer truly unlimited downloads if their network allows.  For users who stream heavily (using BBC iPlayer frequently, and watching other TV content online for example), a truly unlimited package offers some additional comfort without the worry of speeds dropping or extra charges being incurred.
