BT makes Wi-Fi access easier for iPhone and Android users

Manoj Solanki, Thursday September 9, 2010 - 8:31 AM

BT has announced a new mobile application that will allow BT Total Broadband customers to automatically connect to a BT Wi-Fi hotspot when it is in range.

BT’s Wi-Fi network consists of BT Openzone and BT FON hotspots.  BT Openzone hotspots are found in airports, cafes, hotels and other commercial locations, whilst BT FON is a network of broadband users who allow users in range to use their Wi-Fi network in exchange for the same privileges with other BT FON users.

The free app is available for download now from the iTunes App Store or Android Market.  Once downloaded, users need to enter their BT Internet username and password.  They can then choose to be automatically connected when they are in a BT Wi-Fi area.

The app also has a mapping service to enable users to find the nearest hotspot.

As part of the launch, BT will also be giving 50p per download to BBC Children in Need until they reach a target of £10,000.
